Haul Saints / Made for the miles

Tools I use

Heads up: Some links on this page are paid links. If you buy through them, Haul Saints earns a small commission at no extra cost to you. It doesn’t change what’s on the list. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

I’ve been driving since 2018, and drivers keep asking me what’s worth spending money on. This is a short list of gear worth having in the truck. It’s not a sponsored ranking, and nobody paid to be on it. If something stops being good, it comes off the list. Haul Saints’ own tools stay free either way.

Prices change all the time, so check the current price on Amazon.ca before you buy.

A 12V cooler for the sleeper

Every meal you bring from home is one less truck-stop meal. A plug-in 12V cooler is worth having in the truck. This one is from Koolatron, and the listing says it’s made in Canada.

A 12V lunchbox stove

Heats your food from the truck’s 12V outlet, so you can eat a hot meal while you wait at a dock. Check that your outlet and wiring can handle it before you plug it in.

A dual-head truck tire gauge

Don’t guess on tire pressure. A straight-on dual-head gauge reaches the inside tire on your duals, and this one reads 10 to 150 psi.

A dash cam

A dash cam is cheap insurance when something happens on the road. Check whether your company allows a personal camera in the cab first.

A solid phone mount

Keeps your phone where you can see it for hands-free navigation. Check your province or state’s rules on where you can mount it, and only touch the phone when you’re parked.

A power inverter

Runs a laptop or small appliance off the truck’s batteries. A 1000W inverter should be wired straight to the batteries with the right cable and fuse. If you’re not sure how, have a shop install it.

A paperwork case

Bills of lading, fuel receipts and detention slips get lost in the cab. A clipboard case keeps them in one place until you scan or log them.

Free from Haul Saints

Some of the most useful things in the truck don’t cost anything. The free calculators cover cost per km, load GO / NO-GO, CRA meal claims, fuel mileage and Lima oil conversions. The trip records and pay request paperwork in the Driver Workspace are free too.
